As soon as I graduated from university I decided to take a break from finding a design related job and instead found myself working with for a landscape gardening firm for a year as a labourer. The work was very varied and it was a good laugh, and while it was lovely to work in the sun during the summer by the time it started to get cold and rainy in the Winter of 2008 I decided that my time as a labourer was up and resumed my search for a job in graphic design.
I started at informa in March 2008 as in the Healthcare Production Team, putting together a number of titles before moving on to become the designer for the Health Insurance Magazine, which is my current role in the firm.
I have applied for the trip to Costa Rica as it was always something that I was really keen on doing but could never of found the means to do it myself, so jumped at the chance when the company initiated the scheme.
It’s a very worthwhile programme that gives a lot back to the communities of Costa Rica and directly to the families for which the homes go to and relish any chance to be apart of it all.
End goal
The main goal of this is to really get stuck in and help as much as I can but I also look forward to learning about the cultures and lives of the families we are going to be staying with.
What can I do to achieve this goal?
I am going there with an open mind and with bundles of enthusiasm and the main thing is to be willing to get stuck into the work.
I will also take every opportunity to learn and submerse myself into the Costa Rican way of life through working with the builders and staying with our host families and learning about their cultures and backgrounds.
